An Oakwood Hills man was sentenced Tuesday to 18 years in prison after pleading guilty to allegations that he “deliberately” drove over his wife twice after an argument over her inheritance.Pablo Contreras, 51, pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder, according to an order in the McHenry County court signed by Judge Mark Gerhardt.“On May 22, 2026, what began as an argument between Contreras and his wife escalated into a horrific act of violence that nearly claimed her life,” State’s Attorney Randi Freese said in a news release Tuesday after the guilty plea was entered. After the argument, prosecutors said, Contreras entered his 2020 Volkswagen Jetta “while his wife stood near the rear of the vehicle ... accelerated in reverse striking his wife and knocking her to the ground.” He “deliberately” struck, drug and ran over his wife, prosecutors said.“Despite her desperate screams for him to stop, Contreras reversed his vehicle again, dragging her beneath the car and into the roadway
